About Toto
The band Toto was formed in 1976 by guitarists Jeff Porcaro and David Paich (who were also well-known studio musicians who worked with Boz Scaggs at the time) and singer/bassist Bobby Kimball. The group's name was derived from a Latin word that translates to "all-encompassing" and was determined to explore all styles of music.
The third album from Toto, Turn Back, was an unfulfilling success in 1981. However they came back with their fourth album, Isolation, which contained two hits with the title track and Roseanna. The album and the tour made them a household brand across the globe.
After a break of few years, Toto return with the album Fahrenheit in 1986. The album is a departure from the ballads of previous albums, and also features some heavy rock. It was their first platinum album in North America.
During the recording of the band's fifth album the band loses their manager and is put in financial difficulty. They decide to change their name and record a new album with a new producer. Joseph Williams, the son of John Williams, the legendary film composer and actress Barbara Ruick from 1950s, takes over Fergie Frederiksen as lead vocalist. Joseph Williams is a natural frontman and provides the band with a much-needed boost.
The band releases Mindfields in 1999, and then embarks on a major tour across the globe. After several weeks in Europe, the band heads to Japan for sold-out shows. After a brief break, Toto resumes recording and begins recording their first live album, Absolutely Live in 1993 which includes a cover of Weezer's song Hash Pipe in response to the band performing their hit song Africa on a recent tour. Toto's touring lineup includes drummer Lenny Castro and bassist Shannon Forrest and keyboardist Shem Von Schroeck.

Toto came back together for a benefit concert in 2010 to raise funds for the ALS Foundation. This was the first time all of the original Toto members appeared on stage together in over 31 years. The original group was joined by keyboardist Greg Tambu who filled in for Paich, and bassist David Hungate who filled in for Shem von Schroeck.
